The cost of dental implant treatment in Singapore depends on several factors, including the number of teeth being replaced, the proposed restoration and any additional procedures required. A quote for implant placement alone may cover different items from a quote that includes the abutment and crown.
This guide explains the components of an implant treatment estimate, factors that affect fees, and how MediSave and CHAS may apply. An individual examination is needed to assess suitability and establish a treatment plan. The figures in the calculation example are hypothetical and are not A Dental Clinic’s fees or a market price benchmark.
What a Dental Implant Quote Should Include?
A single implant restoration usually consists of an implant fixture placed in the jawbone, an abutment that connects the fixture to the restoration, and a crown that replaces the visible tooth. Ask whether the quoted fee includes all three components, the placement procedure and routine reviews.
| Component | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Consultation and assessment | Examination fees and treatment planning. |
| X-rays and scans | Which investigations are clinically indicated and whether they are included. |
| Implant placement | The fixture, surgical procedure, local anaesthetic and any separate surgical charges. |
| Abutment and crown | The connector, crown material, laboratory work and fitting appointments. |
| Additional procedures | Extraction, bone grafting or sinus augmentation if required. |
| Temporary restoration and sedation | Whether either is appropriate, available and charged separately. |
| Reviews and maintenance | Included reviews, subsequent maintenance and possible repair or replacement fees. |
| GST | The total payable including GST where applicable. |
For a GST registered clinic, advertised and quoted prices to the public must include GST. The prevailing GST rate is 9%. Request the full treatment total as well as a breakdown of any separate charges.
Why Dental Implant Fees Vary?
Dental implant treatment is highly individualised. The condition of the tooth, gums and jawbone affects the treatment required. Replacing one tooth differs from restoring several teeth or a full arch. The planned crown, bridge or denture also affects the laboratory work, appointments and fees.
Implant systems and restorative materials have different costs. Their suitability should be assessed for the individual case. A higher price or a particular brand does not guarantee a better clinical result. Ask which system is proposed and how its components can be maintained or replaced in future.
Fees also vary with the complexity of treatment, clinician involved and services included. If specialist assessment is recommended, ask about the reason for referral and the associated charges.
Additional Procedures That May Affect the Total Cost
The cost of dental implant treatment in Singapore depends on the number of teeth being replaced, the proposed restoration and any additional procedures required.
An extraction may be required if the tooth to be replaced is still present. Depending on the site and treatment plan, extraction and implant placement may be performed at different visits or, in selected cases, during the same visit.
Bone grafting may be considered when the available bone is insufficient for the proposed implant. For some upper back tooth sites, sinus augmentation may be considered. These procedures are not necessary for every patient. Their benefits, risks, alternatives and fees should be discussed before treatment.
X rays or a cone beam computed tomography scan, also called CBCT, may be recommended to assess the site and plan surgery. An intraoral scan records the teeth and gums and serves a different purpose from CBCT. Investigations should be selected according to clinical need.
Local anaesthetic is commonly used for implant placement. Where sedation is considered, suitability, availability, associated risks and additional fees need separate discussion. A temporary tooth replacement may also involve a separate fee.
An Example of Calculating the Total Dental Implant Fee
The following invented figures illustrate how to read an itemised estimate. They do not describe an actual patient, a clinic offer or typical Singapore market fees. For this illustration, all amounts shown are assumed to include GST.
| Illustrative item | Hypothetical fee including GST |
|---|---|
| Implant placement with abutment and crown | S$3,270.00 |
| Clinically indicated imaging | S$272.50 |
| Total before any eligible MediSave withdrawal | S$3,542.50 |
This example assumes that no separate fees are required for extraction, grafting, sedation or temporary restoration charge. In actual treatment, the total may be different depending on the patient’s clinical findings and the procedures required. Any eligible MediSave withdrawal changes how the bill is paid; it does not reduce the treatment fee itself.
MediSave for Dental Implant Surgery
MediSave may be used for eligible dental implant surgical procedures at participating accredited institutions, subject to prevailing CPF rules and withdrawal limits. The amount depends on the procedure performed, its classification, eligible charges and applicable limits.
The crown and other restorative components should not be assumed to be covered by a surgical MediSave claim. Additional surgery, such as grafting or surgical extraction, requires its own eligibility assessment. Claims for multiple procedures in one session are subject to the applicable rules and cannot simply be added without checking those rules.
Ask for an estimate showing the total fee, the expected eligible MediSave amount and the balance payable through other means. Use of an approved family member’s MediSave is subject to CPF eligibility and authorisation requirements. Estimated claims remain subject to the applicable rules and actual treatment performed.
Separately, Flexi MediSave allows eligible patients aged 60 and above to use up to S$400 per year for selected outpatient treatment, including eligible root canal treatments and permanent crowns at participating dental institutions. This is not blanket coverage for dental care. Do not assume that an implant crown qualifies; confirm eligibility for the specific procedure with the treating institution.
CHAS and Insurance
Dental implants are not included in the listed CHAS dental services. Eligible CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation cardholders may receive subsidies for selected other dental procedures at participating clinics, subject to clinical assessment and claim limits. A separate procedure in an implant treatment plan does not automatically qualify for a subsidy.
Insurance coverage depends on the policy. Check whether implant surgery and the restoration are included, any exclusions or annual limits, and whether prior approval is required. Ask the insurer and clinic how any insurance reimbursement should be coordinated with MediSave.
Replacing Several Teeth or A Full Arch
Options may include an implant supported bridge, a removable denture retained by implants, or a fixed full arch restoration. Some plans use four or six implants to support a fixed arch of teeth. The appropriate number and arrangement depend on clinical assessment.
Ask whether the estimate covers one jaw or both jaws, temporary and final restorations, preparatory surgery, and follow up care. A full arch plan requires its own estimate rather than multiplying the price of a single tooth implant.
Suitability Risks and Ongoing Care
An implant is one option for replacing missing teeth. A bridge or removable denture may also be considered. Your dentist can explain the options in relation to your oral health, preferences and budget.
Implant treatment involves surgery. Possible complications include infection, failure to integrate with the bone and injury to nearby structures. Restorations can also loosen, wear or fracture. The risks relevant to your site and medical history should be discussed during assessment.
Implants require cleaning and professional review. Gum inflammation and disease can develop around implants. Longevity varies, and crowns, bridges or dentures may need maintenance, repair or replacement. Include these potential future costs when considering treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a single dental implant cost in Singapore?
There is no single fee that applies to every case. Confirm whether the estimate includes placement, the fixture, abutment and crown, imaging, additional procedures and GST where applicable.
Does the implant fee include the crown?
Some estimates include the crown and others list it separately. Check the proposed restoration and all included components before comparing fees.
Can I use MediSave for the entire implant treatment?
Eligibility applies to approved procedures and charges within the relevant limits. Do not assume that the entire bill, including the crown, is covered. Request an individual estimate.
Does CHAS subsidise dental implants?
Implants are not among the listed CHAS dental services. Eligibility for any separate dental treatment must be assessed independently.
Is a CBCT scan or bone graft always required?
The dentist decides which investigations and additional procedures are appropriate after assessment. A graft is not required for every implant case.
How long do implants last?
Longevity varies. Regular cleaning and review are needed, and complications or restoration repairs can occur. No lifetime outcome can be guaranteed.
How do I compare public and private treatment fees?
Request an estimate from the relevant institution and compare the proposed treatment, included components, applicable subsidies and total payable. Fees and service availability vary.
